About Me

I am Lydia Chen, a botanical artist creating bespoke watercolour paintings inspired by nature’s quieter details.

My practice is rooted in slow observation and thoughtful mark-making. I’m drawn to plants not only for their form, but for the sense of calm and presence they bring — qualities I aim to carry through every piece I create.

With a background in architecture, my work sits at the intersection of structure and softness. Careful composition and fine detail are balanced with a loose, fluid watercolour approach, allowing each painting to feel both intentional and organic.

I work with archival-quality watercolours on fine art cotton paper, creating pieces designed to endure. Commissions are accepted in limited numbers, ensuring each artwork receives my full attention and is developed at an unhurried pace.

Whether painting a single stem or a more considered botanical composition, my intention remains the same: to create artwork that feels quiet, timeless, and deeply personal. My work is often commissioned to mark meaningful moments — from weddings to heirlooms — and is created to be lived with and returned to over time.
